Chicken Pox vaccination question for all....
Dec. 13th, 2005   7:01pm

Ok I posted about a month ago asking about the pox and our kids that have CAH and how they all faired. Some posted and said even though they got vaccinated, they STILL got them. Some said they had a few, some said a lot. Thus far my 8 year old has been pox free. But I feel it will change SOON since the kids surrounding her desk are out with them as of today. Here is my burning question. Is this what has happened to EVERY child that got vaccinated for Chicken Pox? Is EVERYONE getting them even though they got the shot for it? If I recall it was given so they would NOT get the Chicken Pox. When I first agreed to this shot, that was my understanding. Was everyone else told this would be to PREVENT Chicken Pox? I have a school full of mom’s that are just really wondering what we all paid for when we paid for our shots back then. I heard they would required booster shots of this at a later age. The rate this Chicken Pox virus is spreading is quite rapid. I am amazed. This is kindergarten through fifth grade. Some have 5 pox, some have 25, everyone has a different case it seems. Almost every child that got them, was vaccinated. We were all talking the other day saying that what if this vaccination isn’t working as well as they thought it would. What if it is actually delaying our children getting Chicken Pox. What then? They give a booster when they are what 13? And then what. Will it wear off when they are in their 20’s?! When they are child bearing?!  I am now wondering if I should have even had my daughter get the shot. I would rather have her get them at a young age, then later. I heard it is very dangerous to get them when you are older. We are all baffled. You hear so many different things. I just wondered if this was through the U.S. that even though they are getting these vaccinations, they are getting them. OR is it just in Ohio. Did we get a faulty batch? I know I am babbling, but we are all amazed at how fast this is spreading. Some ask, do you think Chicken Pox has mutated a bit to where the first vaccination no longer matches what Chicken Pox is today? If there is any health workers out there that can add to this and help me, please do. I would love to hear from everyone. The boy behind my daughter has them. We are just waiting. Incubation is like 14 to 21 days after exposure. Let us all do the math.....yep Christmas day. So far everyone has been really ok with them. Perhaps the shot is a benefit, I just wonder if it was to benefit in limiting the pox, or it was meant to totally eliminate catching them. That was what I thought. One boy has been hospitalized in my daughter’s class from them because he has a medical condition (not CAH) that is really not coping well with the pox. Please keep him in your prayers. We will know more on him tomorrow. But everyone else is just enjoying the extended vacation. Thanks for your input. (I am itching just thinking about it!)
