DebbiW,

You are right to be extremely leary of email I think. There was a Frontline (TV show) special about it recently that scared me silly - I don’t want to be negative so I’ll just say that the show confirmed that kids on the internet are open to all sorts of advances that they do not really understand.

Secondly, As far as where the boundaries should be set for what CAH kids can and can’t do, that’s such a personal decision that I can’t comment too much. I happen to be a skier and I want my CAH child to ski. I know the ski patrol (I’m one of them) and I feel they would find my kid’s medic alert bracelet in the event of an emergency. But I also know some parents would think it’s risky to take a CAH kid ski-ing, and some wouldn’t let _any_ kid go ski-ing, CAH or not. These are very personal decisions and I can’t comment too much - that said -

I guess one of the bottom lines for me is that if I do my job right, when my kid hits 18 they should not really need me to set limits anymore - they should be able to self discipline. For me that means letting them make the occasional mistake rather than guiding them to the correct decision. It’s an interesting topic to me.
