Stress Dosing versus shot during flu?
Jan. 4th, 2006   8:48pm

My son, who is 18 months, had his last vaccine last Thursday. He got a fever on Saturday which is very typical for him. We did stress dose him when it reached 102.5 and he was acting not himself. But that only lasted half a day and he was fine. Well, we still haven’t gotten rid of the fever completely although it’s low grade. Tonight it’s 100.0 F but yesterday he threw up at dinner and twice today and has had nothing but diarrhea diapers since last night. So I’m thinking that what I thought was vaccines is a stomach flu.

Ok, so here’s the question. So far when he’s thrown up it hasn’t been at the times I give him his meds. But with the severe diarrhea, should I be stress dosing him or giving him a shot? He’s not acting extra tired or lethargic, just like a sick kid who wants to be held alot. He hasn’t eaten almost anything today of course, but my husband is making me a little crazy with the stress dosing or shots when I thought that so long as he wasn’t throwing up his meds or acting lethargic that we were ok. I mean when he threw up it was hours after getting his hydrocortisone. And I really don’t want to stick him if it’s not necessary, but I would rather err on the side of caution.

Thanks so much for any advice. I guess I should have called the endo but wasn’t that worried until husband got home :) Thanks again.
