Seems that we have way more in common than we thought.  I was typing my suggestions at the same time you were posting yours.  Great minds think alike.

Being the middle child of 7 kids I was a little needy for attention.  This happened to make my mother uncomfortable as she was not a touchy feely type.  She definately had favorites but now they don’t talk all that much.

I always felt like I had to keep the peace in the family and went way out of my way to do so.  The ones she favored couldn’t have cared less.

Now, so many years later, my parents have put me down as the executrix of their wills knowing that I would be fair and empathetic to all involved. 

Family can be very complex at times.  Surrounding yourself with people who love you unconditionally is definately the right way to go.
