TiffaneyI don’t normally ask for advice, but my 9 y/o SWCAH child has been quite sick lately and I don’t know what to do. He is having shortness of breath with exertion and at rest. His heart feels like it’s going to pound out of his chest with just running up the stairs. He has been very tired and having headaches lately (4 in past month). I took him to his pediatrician and she ordered labwork to check his CBC (he has a bleeding disorder as well) and to see if the shortness of breath is related to allergies) he passed out with the lab draw which he has done 3 other times. His endo feels maybe he needs an increase in his florinef, but we can’t get labs until next week due to his passing out and receiving a stress dose of Cortef. I even took him to the emergency room and they did a chest x-ray and EKG which was normal. The ER doctor called a pediatric cardiologist and he got a tilt-table test done the next day. They poked him 6 times for the IV and couldn’t complete the test because he felt sick and was going to pass out. He was screaming to put the table back down flat. The cardiologist said based on his reaction to the tilt-table he would have put him on florinef, but he is already taking the dose he would have started him with. We are scheduled for pulmonary function testing in 2 weeks, but he had that done 3 years ago and everything was okay. He has missed all of last week and didn’t go to school today because he was dizzy, tired, and his stomach hurt. I’m waiting to hear from his endo. today. Any ideas? I’m very stressed out over this. Not to mention I work full time as an emergency room nurse and know something isn’t right. I’ve used up 36 hrs. of vacation to stay at home with him and we still don’t know what is wrong.
