re: Endo... no CAH bloodwork Adults .....help!

Aimee, I go to the endo every 6 months (about). Usually, he tests ACTH (for CAH/dex), Renin (for Salt-wasting/Florinef), electrolytes (for sodium and potassium levels and also an indicator for Florinef) and a thyroid panel (for hypothyroid/synthroid). The last visit in September, he did not check ACTH because "clinically I seemed fine." That was the first time that I can remember that he didn’t check it. I thought maybe the hospital was clamping down on costs to keep the insurance companies happy. Anyway, the lab messed up and ran ACTH anyway.

Where you have/had cancer, I’m not sure what indicators you could use to demonstrate low cortisone. I use longer period cycles, stronger sex drive and some muscle weakness/tiredness (what a combination!) to tell me I need more dex. If I am on too much, the opposite is true.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Sheila
