re: newborn with cah--initial hospital stay

First off congratulations!!!  May is such a great time to have a baby.

As to your questions.  With regard to the birth and hospital stay, my experience was that there really was not that much difference between having a child with CAH compared to one without.

Through an amino I knew that one of my twins (my son) had CAH.  At their birth I had an Endo on call for the CAH and a neonatal specialist on call for having twins.  They both popped in right after the birth, gave my son and daughter a once over and off they went!

As for my hospital stay, both babies roomed with me all day from 7:00am til 11:00pm in which I sent them back to the nursery so I could grab a few z’ssss.  We all we also discharged from the hospital on the same day.

In retrospect, the only differences that I recall were  1. I gave my son all his meds upon my request.  I personally know all the tricks and didn’t want some nurse just forcing meds down.  2.  As for blood draws, he did have an intial blood test after birth for his base line CAH levels.  We then began "textbook treatment" with cortef and florinef.  If I recall correctly I believe that there was one more blood test while we were in the hospital just to check his levels.  However, we did not receive those results til two weeks later (sent to Essoterics) when we had a follow up with our Endo.  When then re-tested him about a month later just so we could fine tune his cortef and florinef dosages.

I truly HTH’s and eases you mind a bit!
