Hi everyone. I just wanted to ask a question to all the parents and the adult CAH patients this question. It is a tricky one though since every person is different in dealing with stress. But I mean the emotional part of it. I have read somewhere that that CAH patients lack some part of the "dealing with the emotional stress" because of the adrenals not working properly. Now please anyone clarify what I am saying if you read about this. I think it was in a CARES newsletter. It was about one of their researches. I ask because my 8 and a half year old daughter, that has the salt wasting kind of CAH has been quite stressed this year in school. I am not sure if this is an age thing that is going along with it all or what. She isn’t really fond of her teacher’s way of teaching this year. My motto is, you gotta deal with it because life isn’t always easy. You have to learn to deal with situations in which are not always perfect. The other day her English teacher, (that I don’t care for myself) scolded her for not finishing a paper that she thought didn’t have to be finished yadda yadda yadda. But the core of this is, she bit her fingers to the nothing over it and said she wanted to cry. Well I would have too. (and I am still going to get to the bottom of that this today) BUT my main concern is this. Do CAH patients not deal with stress well? I am sure it depends on if they are over suppressed or under too. I know that really wacks my daughter’s disposition at times. Right now she is under suppressed. I don’t want to coddle her. Life is rough, and we all need to deal with it or we hurt ourselves by NOT dealing with it. BUT I do want to say to the principal next year that I would like to pick my daughter’s teachers (like we used to be able to do there) because I want her with a teacher that I know will not cause her undo stress. Face it there are some not so nice teachers out there. So my bottom line is this. Is there solid evidence that proves that CAH patients do NOT deal with emotional stress because their bodies cannot provide enough "adrenaline" (perhaps is the word I am looking for?) or whatever part that helps deal with emotional stress? Thanks everyone.Laura
