DianaHi Liz:
It is natural to worry or stress as your daughter goes through this and as parents we all do worry about how things will go. Know that you are not alone in this ....
Surgerys today use very good techniques and the surgeons with current experience know what they are doing. My daughter at 3 yrs old had the surgery last June. Our Dr kept us posted throughtout the surgery so we knew what was going on in the OR, it really helped to be informed as it was happening. She was then 5 days in hospital. Pain medication controlled the pain well and she slept a lot. She did not appear to be in a lot of discomfort or distress. She complained about the IV in her hand more then the actual surgery. After the surgery she was wrapped in gauze and covered with a fishnet type wrap down to her ankles to keep everything still (looked like a little mermaid) No tape was used on her skin and the wrap came off without any trouble. She had it removed the day we left the hospital. Once home we used tylenol with codine for a few days to make sure she wasn’t in any discomfort. Immediately home she was charging around and other than no straddle toys for awhile she was quickly doing all her usual stuff.
I will be thinking of her and you on Mar 27th. Let us know how things go and try not to stress!!!
