My doctors never discussed emotional stress and I assumed the way I felt was totally normal until I was well into my twenties.  Even then I didn’t connect it to CAH but just thought it was a personality issue.  Last week however I was told that CAHers are susceptible to problems with stress management - in particular overreaction and an inability to calm down after the event leading to a viscious cycle of escalating stress hormones and a risk of developing exhaustion and anxiety/depression feedback loop.  I have been advised to work hard on relaxation/stress management techniques and to develope my own early warning system to identify when it’s getting out of control and take action.

It’s crucial that children with CAH learn this so it becomes routine in order that they can fulfil their potential at school and later work.
