I hate it when people come to the board asking touchy questions and get slammed about it. They are asking questions because they want to learn. Sure, some of the aspects of CAH are more touchy than others, but how are people supposed to educate themselves unless they ask questions?
CAH may be a condition affecting the adrenal glands, but in little girls it can also effect the genitals. While I don’t agree it should be classified as an intersex condition, many people have been taught that it is (because of the basic definition of intersex) We need to help teach these people why we believe what we do instead of screaming at them that they need to do more research. It’s the research that’s telling them that CAH is intersex!
And as for people daring to do research on CAH- we should be encouraging it! Psychologists do studies on how height affects social interactions, and I’m sure if they’ve done it on height they’ve also done it on big noses, hair color, eye color or whatever else you could come up with. Why not genitals? For example, I would love to see some research on sexual development and sexual identity comparing little girls who have had surgery to those who have not. Research like this is done to help educate us- and the more we learn about CAH, the better we will be able to help our children.
