Cherry LaneHi Marta,
I believe since my Granddaughter has had the surgery(genitoplasty) She has had no 00000000 NONE NADA urinary tract infections. She was potty trained and can control her bladder and hold her urine without leaking . This is the benefits from the physical perspective. The mental benefits is she is not treated different in pre school and her genitals look like any other little girl so there will be no stigma attached to question her sexuality thus confusing her in the long run. No peers talking behind her back or snickering or teasing her in dance class if her tights and tu tu do not look like it should with nothing protruding or appearing different. I personally feel that for her to have had the surgery she has a better chance of having her identity of who she is well rounded BEFORE she hits puberty.....therefore not causing as much stress in the teen years about being someone different. I feel it was the best decision for her in the long term and big picture of things. You have to ask yourself HOW you would feel if it were you and you are different? Some can handle it and some can’t . I did not want her to have the pressure of a decision such as this thrown at her at a time in her life that she is searching for her identity in so many ways. So for US... the surgery has helped her physically and mentally.
Hope this helps you and does not hurt anyone else that thinks differently. This is just what we thought would work BEST for us and so far it has !
