My daughter (10 SWCAH) played with dolls until she was 2.  Then she switched to cars, tanks, trucks, action figures etc...But we also played with her tea set.  And now she is definetly a tomboy, loves sports, getting muddy and dirty and hanging with the boys, but.......she loves to have her hair long, loves perfume and lipgloss and likes going on sleepovers.  I think that every child is different.  And even though she is only 10 she is like a preteen all of a sudden.  She is into music now, clothes and is always asking me how her hair looks.

Everyday is new with her. :-)
