About special needs children

Everyone-

I am in no way saying that children with CAH do not need special care. But to say that they are special needs is not the correct term to be using.

The main problem with labeling any child a Special Needs Child is that it is hard for the child to over come that labeling. Having a degree in Psychology, I have read many studies about how it is hard to for kids to overcome labeling that educators, psychologist, doctors, and us a parents put on our own children.

Here is my goal as a parent. I want to have my children be able to achieve their highest ability.  Even if that is sweeping floors at Walmart. If they are labeled special needs (as I have seen in some of the children I have worked with) they (the children that are labeled) think that things should just be given to them and that they should not have to work for it. I want my children to be doers not takers in their adult lives.

This is my last posting about this subject.
