LauraI forgot about this until someone else posted. My sister in law never played with dolls either. For Christmas one year, she got a baby buggy. Instead of dolls, she emptied it, and filled it with water so she could wash her pretend quick draw,"Western Guns". Her mother just about had a heart attack.
I talked to my mother and told me back in her days, she always wanted to run with the boys and never with the girls in the neighborhood because she said they were boring. Her mother too had a fit saying she didn’t act like a "proper girl". She climbed trees, had her teeth knocked out from running with the boys, and loved to play sports with them. Which at that time was REALLY unheard of. She also had a fit in high school because she wanted to fix cars and take shop and the school did not allow girls to take that class. It was only homemakers class then for girls.
My neighbor never played with dolls, so I reaped the benefits when Christmas came. She played with strictly boy stuff. She grew up to be the greatest mom I know.
I guess what I am trying to say is this. For many, playing with boy toys is just the norm. CAH or not. I think society emphasizes too much on what their definition of a girl and boy are. From the get go. Girls are pink boys are blue. My neighbor boy that is my daughter’s age loves pink. He is the cutest thing you would ever see. He runs with the girls and plays dress up. He has all female cousins and one older brother. He can play soccer like a maniac. But some frown upon this and won’t let their kid play with him because of this. It is so stupid. We in society insist it is pink or blue constantly. Thank God many famous women of our time didn’t think so. Ask Amelia Earheart. Thank God for all the women that is in a man’s political or corporate position never saw things as pink or blue. So you may get a daughter with or without CAH that plays with princess gowns or fast Hot Wheels. What to expect? Expect to enjoy watching your child grow, like any other child. And if there comes up a difference in the "girly girl" society of what is supposed to be the norm, celebrate. You just may have a future president of the U.S. on your hands. (did you all hear music playing in the background through out the end of my speech? I think it was Glory, Glory, Hallelujah....) Amen and thank you.
