re: re: BEST PLACE TO CARRY MEDIC ALERT BRACLET?

Huh?!! Sorry ladies, but I must say that the best place to carry the bracelet is ON your toddler!! What if you are not around (or unconcious?)? How will the emergency personnel know WHO the medic alert bracelet belongs to, IF they find it in a purse, etc.?? I’ve worked in health care, and hate to say it, but medic alerts sometimes get overlooked even ON the person: I would be very surprised if it was found anywhere else.

I know it’s hard to get them to leave it on!! Our kids both wore them from the time they were a few weeks old - they know that it just does NOT come off!! Our dd used to take hers off from time to time, or sometimes it would get caught on a thread or something and come off, so this is what we did: we went to a jeweler, found a pretty, heavy-duty silver bracelet, and got him to solder it right onto the medic alert medallion. Then, he measured dd’s wrist, removed the clasp, and joined the bracelet right onto her wrist! It will NOT come off without a plyers! (we also kept the extra links, so that the jeweler can add them as she grows).

When my kids were very small, I "made" a sport-type bracelet using velcro, and always had it on their wrists. Whenever we would fly or take a long car trip, I’d write their medic alert info and number on their diapers in permanent marker! (The idea of wearing it on the wrist is that the medics will find it taking a pulse, but they usually don’t take the pulse of an infant on their arms ... more often on their legs or the femoral - groin - area, hence on the diaper!)

My opinion is to get them used to wearing it - whatever it takes! - otherwise, it’s next to useless, and may not be anywhere in sight when needed.
