Sometimes for whatever reason shot isn’t given : ) plans change and people do the best they can.
Here are some other ideas that I’ve used.
Have Endo call ahead w/ instructions for ER Docs & orders for nurses. My Endo is available 27/4 via answering service. As much as I know my condition. The staff doesn’t or has a general idea BUT for them to just listen to me upon first presentation and me and my CAH isn’t in their data base? ......no I could be some ranting wackjob that thinks I have this condition but when I give them my endos card w/ number it changes everything- I’ve asked them to contact another medical professional expert to do something- they like this and my request is put into motion.
Or - as you talk with the triage nurse tell him/her please call your endo or the endo on call for orders for solu-cortef. They seem to get the words adrenal insufficient besides adrenal crisis.
: ) : ) : ) : P
The ER STAFF are human beings. they come to work every day to save lives....yeah they for the most part don’t know all that much about CAH but they put the order in for the solu-cortef, ordered blood tests and are down in the next room also trying to save a child that was in an auto accident w/ his parents. I think they are amazing people and if they don’t know all about CAH then it’s up to us ...to visit on a lazy afternoon .....maybe bring your children with you and visit the ER like a fun tour bring the people that help us pizza or bagels or something gulten/wheat free, sugar free, dairy free whatever flowers, teddy bears to them AND bring CAH literature from maybe caresfoundation to the charge nurse - they can put it in their files ....then when you come in again for whatever it’s like ya you know me ; P and it’s a heck of a lot less traumatic ~ for the parent and the child.
I also wanted to post because I’ve spent time where medical people spent all their effort making sure that my symtoms had nothing to do with CAH and I’m greatful for that But the symtoms that were there were just brushed off turned out to be cancer for something else later. Or the symtoms were something else and the cancer was there anyway. This year was told I had gallstones ...little bugger was supposed to pass and not get stuck like it did - physically I felt like c*** I know some docs which I love thought I was sick in the head which I wasn’t and after the gallbladder surgery - I feel wonderful. That ER doc told me the gallstone would stay for 100 years- Do I question her judgement ...nope that was her speculation at the time and a month later things changed.
They don’t know everything and it says that right there on the sheet ones signs to get into the ER or Dr. Office .....medicine is an inexact science ....it’s flexable.
To Sherry,
I’m sorry this was a scary experience but I’m hopeful that good will come from this and any other trips will be better. They wanted her to stay for observation ...so that is a positive thing right?
