lisaHey Aimee, if you have the energy and heart to do it, those are two of the biggest obstacles. When I was a student I am sure I was a pain in the rump to my patients. I wanted to know everything, however you have one very big part right you have to know when to leave and let people deal. Everyone deals with things at different levels and in different ways.
I was really naive, I thought oh I am never going to need pills to get buy on, then HELLO reality has a way of slapping you in the face to prove a point. You asked what one of the hardest parts of nursing is, not to judge people...... take them at face value until proven otherwise. Society is terrible and people lose why they went in to this field. That can ruin a hospital or clinic with just one person having a bad attitude and taking it out on the patients, and their families.
I say if this is something you really want nothing should hold you back, there are many different levels of nursing school and most schools now a days know that it isn’t always some teenager fresh out of high school that wants a degree and career. This world definately needs many more good nurses, and I think anyone that has had to over come any illness yours or families has a head start in the compassion department. That is all for now. Nice talking to you. If you want to talk further you can email me at wimmer@charter.net . Lisa
