aimeeDear LisaV.,
I was on prednisone for 33 years - for a while wayyyy to much and that is where the side effects may happen.
I think each body is different but wanted to and that I have really nice teeth and the only real problems started when the pred was 7.5 mgs or over. Was on 20mgs of pred/day for to long from the best Children’s Hospital in the Mid-west ....hostile that I trusted them ...that I bought their BS yes...because as they were telling me to lose weight! in the medical records they noted that the weight gain and padding on the back was from their pred dose- read also that extra pred increases hair.
I cut it to ten on my own after I left that state but still listened to endos that I was on the right dose - begged the one woman to please lower the dose -she laughed mentioned that pred makes one euphoric ...yeah maybe that was her take on it ...it wasn’t until I lit right into this other huge endo in front of his drug reps that he went OK we’ll lower it. Left him and was planning to tell the new endo that wanted an even lower dose of pred when he goes "what are you doing on prednisone? lets take hydrocortisone" I was like alright ..why not.
I do know some people that have SWCAH that seem to do well with 5MG pred/day.
When I was on the pred - felt like I was flying plus really nice or scary angry - never cared who someone was - would yell right up the ladder -
With the hydro, I’m a little more mellow and not one to anger as much although more ranting, venting and then polite, assertive to get my point across. Be careful with the pred but also the endo must have reasons for doing it.
It trips me out that pred is eight times more powerful than hydrocortisone ... It really depends on how your daughter reacts to the pred. Everyone is so different- I know the doctors tow the line and say it’s a theraputic dose but I do believe the drugs still do things. This is my opinion - I never went to medical school but I really believe that the cortisones bring to the surface just a little more ...magnify traits that are already there - a little moody or wired to be sensitive then the meds bring that just a bit more into focus. Then again I also had a thyroid condition brewing hashimoto’s thyroiditis where I was hyperthyroid then finally later hypo- I take synthroid and I’ve lost 20 pounds and nocternal. Other people gain weight and are tired. I also have something called Celiac Sprue and that did something to moods etc. also I guess just wanted to say that if things happen - it just might not be the pred but then again please be careful with that stuff.
