re: Switching to Prednisone

Lisa,

My son switched from Cortef to Prednisone when he was 3.5 years old (he is now 9).  Our Dr. put him on Prednisone because the Cortef suspension was not working and his bone age advanced (by about 3 years).  With the Prednisone, his hormone levels immediately went back to normal.  Our Dr. just switched him back to Cortef to try and get him to grow a little.  The Prednisone worked well for him.  It slowed in bone growth down so that now his chronological age and bone age are the same.  He had no weight issues at all.  He is very slim, but a little on the short side.  We think that the Prednisone did a great job of keeping his bone age from advancing, but it also may have slowed down his growth (height).  All in all, our experience with Predinsone was very good.  No other noticable side effects.
