Oh, and you have to remember that the term "mate" means something a bit different in the US than it does in Australia. I’m not sure if it has the same connotation in the UK. A friend of mine who visited Australia got embarrassed when after finishing a large meal he announced to his hosts that he was "stuffed". He didn’t understand their shocked expressions.
