re: parental advice needed- non cah

My mom started letting me shave when I was either 10 or 11. I was relieved that she did, because I was starting to become self conscious about my "hairy legs" ( I have dark hair, and seemed to have more leg hair than most of my friends). I have a cousin who’s mother REFUSED to let her shave, and the poor girl was tormented because she was around 10 or 11 years old, and had very long underarm hair. So I made up my mind...when my daughters start becoming self conscious about their leg or underarm hair, and they are atleast 10...then they will be taught to shave. Kids are SO mean to other kids. If they can find a weakness, they will use it against them. I dont think that kids should be allowed to do ALL, or even most, adult type things...but shaving? It’d be MUCH easier for me to see either of my girls (ages 3 1/2 and 9) shaving in 4th grade, than coming home crying that people are picking on them for being hairy.  The nicks from the razor will heal....the pain of being tormented....sometimes it feels like it will never stop hurting.

My advice? Let the shaving begin (at least sometime in the near future)       :)
