Lynn,

I’m glad to hear Ryan is feeling better!  So sorry to hear your daughter had to miss her 12th bday. I’m sure she felt more worried for her brother than for her birthday.

What you described is exactly what our family went through from the end of January well into February.  It was never "diagnosed" but they thought it was a different strain of flu.  It was hell.  My husband even took a week off work when he got it.  He has never called off sick for himself.  We took our 9 year old to the ER because her fever would break at 103 plus, her throat hurt, she was sore all over and we couldn’t break the fever.  She slept through her solu cortef injection and when we got her to the hospital her fever was at 104.6.  It got even higher after we got there.  She was SEVERLY dehydrated and her electrolytes were crazy!  With several bolus bags and more IV solu cortef she finally broke it but she stayed sick for a week.  I encouraged the discharge because I thought she would be fine but not to be.  Then I got sick, our 8 year old got sick- on her birthday!!!!!!!!!, then my husband got sick.  Our 8 year old is also ssw cah but she seems to handle illnesses much better- no ER trip for her.  Then hubby got sick.  That is a month I will never forget but is hard to remember because I don’t think I slept for most of it!

I’m glad you posted this.  I’m not glad Ryan got sick but to alert others that even with the flu shot, there are strains that escape that shot.

Blessings Lynn!
