Oh dear you poor woman, I am shocked that the hospital suggested Bird Flu, which I am sure would have been the first case in humans in the USA? And especially when this was really quite a common virus, I know of many who have had it of late!!  I am so pleased your son managed to recover so quickly and only spent two days in hospital for such a serious episode!!!! It does seem your family is rather unlucky with illness on birthdays........ a lesson to be learnt for us all - CHECK dates on Solu-cortef!!
