I have recently read that most CAH children are treated with hydrocortisone (cortef) which is a short acting glucocorticoid & that longer acting glucocorticoids such as prednisone or dexamethasone have potential growth concerns so are not used as often for young children.DianaI was following the thread about CAH kids that are tiny & slow to grow. My daughter is one of these kids, almost 4 yrs old, weights 27lbs, & is 35 inches tall. She has been on pedipred since first diagnosed, (current dose 0.8ml 3times a day)
I would like to do a little research on my own & inquire to all of you with tiny kids to respond to this post with age, weight, height & type of glucocorticoid they are taking. I am going to ask my Endo if maybe we can switch to cortef. Whenever I ask her something she often responds with "why would you want to do that?" or "why would you ask that?" That’s why I want to get info on this before we see her.
Thanks for any help on this.
