Hey Tina,

My husband and I adopted L. from China 5 months ago.  She was a 3 year old "special needs" adoption.  We knew she had "ambiguous genitalia" but the tests for CAH was never done.  We used Christian World Adoptions.  About 6 weeks ago, our adoption agency called us to say that another parent was adopting another child through their program also with "ambiguous genitalia."  Again, no tests for CAH performed.  I was more than happy to talk to this other family.

I have seen other international adoption agencies list special needs children with similar descriptions.  I have not seen any listing for children within the U.S.

For these children overseas, the conditions in the orphanages can best be described as "sad."  Expensive tests and treatment are not given to these children.  On meeting L., our peds endocrinologist told us "wow, she is lucky to be alive!"

I hope this helps.
