ear, eye and sinus infection

Gabe (23month, SWCAH) has been sick for over a month now.  He’s had 3 rounds of antibiotics (first amoxicillian and then 2 rounds of augmentin).  His ears are cleared up and his nose isn’t too bad.  His eyes are still green and matted in the mornings and when he wakes up from naps.  Now he’s on antibiotic eye drops.  He just can’t seem to get well.  Throughout most of this he hasn’t had a fever (maybe a low one on several days).  I just feel so bad for him because we can’t get him well.  Also, all of the antibiotics messed up his stomach causing diarrhea and SEVERE diaper rash.  Not to be selfish, but this is costing us a fortune - staying home from work, doctor’s visits, medications, babysitters that are still paid even if we don’t show.  After explaining all of this I do have a question - should CAH kiddos be treated more aggressively at the first sign of ear and sinus infections?  I just keep thinking that if we had started with the augmentin and eye drops that maybe it would have been cleared up sooner.

Thanks,

Janell
