Dilation is an important issue to discuss with the surgeon before surgery. In my daughters case we were clearly told that dilation is NOT CONSIDERED prior to adolescence. Our Cornell physician told us that dilation can be traumatic and painful, cause psychological distress and distrust therefore it is not recommended for young children.
