LisaWhy would you need disability for your child. When my daughter was born our insurance said it was policy for us to appy for SSI but that she would be declined because she is not disabled. They made it seem like being disabled meant that you could not function normally out in the world. For example, someone who is blind qualifies for SSI. That was the example that they gave me. We applied because we had to but we also felt that she is not disabled. She has a medical condition, but not a disability.
