Had to have my daughter injected yesterday..

What a long day. My daughter is a few days away from making her First Communion Saturday. She is sick. It started Saturday with a sore throat. Thought it was a simple cold but then a 103 fever took a hold of her yesterday afternoon. Then she threw up which she usually does with a high fever. BUT she usually smiles, wipes her face and is a new kid. She is 8. All the years she has done great with the throwing up. One other time we took her in the E.R. for Solu Cortef in her IV and a bolus of fluids. This time was different and I knew to get her into the ped.s office pronto. The school called to inform me that strep is going around school too. She didn’t want to eat anything and her drinking was minimal. She was fine in the morning it was the afternoon when she turned. So yesterday she shot up a fever of 103, went to give her the triple dose of Cortef and Motrin, and she barfed and barfed and barfed. Usually we wait give her another dose of Cortef orally and she recovers beautifully. My rule is that if she barfs that up we inject and go to the E.R.   Not this time. I gave her the triple dose went to put her in the car and she said her legs were hurting and shaking. I kept assuming the triple dose of  Cortef would kick in so I did 90 mph to the ped. office and got stopped by the police for it. I told them I had a medical emergency and they let me go. I talked to my daughter the entire time and she said she was ok just tired. ARGH! Tired! I got there and she said she  could walk in but was still shaky. The Cortef was working but not like is should have. They took her immediately in and I told them I wanted her injected with Solu Cortef and so they did. She was crying by the time we got into the office because she felt so bad and then on top of that the injection hurt bad. I never knew it hurt so bad. She has always had it in an IV. So by about 15 minutes after the shot she was feeling better. They decided to avoid a hospital stay for the moment because she was still peeing and shedding MANY tears. That was a good sign of no dehyrdation. The ped. said as long as she continues to drink A LOT they would not have to admit her. They told me to make the judgement call when I took her home. But I had a few hours to decided. Her legs stopped shaking in the office and she stopped crying once the pain of the shot subsided. She gets emotional when she is sick. So I took her home and she drank anything she wanted. Even pop! Then she asked to eat something and she even got better. Within an hour she was feeling so much better she said she forgot she was sick. She looks HORRIFIC! Nose raw from blowing it for two days. Pale skin, those glassy eyes but a smile on her face. They ran a strep test, and several other things on her. They started her on antibiotics since her fever was so high. We plan to keep her on them until we find out if she has some infection in her body. She is still sleeping this morning. I am hoping she sleeps late so she rejuvenates. I keep checking on her every hour. Please pray she gets well so she can make her First Communion with her class Saturday! She has worked so hard towards this day. Thanks everyone. My advice after this... inject no matter what! I am kicking myself for not doing so right away and assuming the Cortef would work. It happened all so fast. Next time I will just inject. I am so angry with myself today.
