Megan I get your point but that terminology may have been fair to use in years gone by when people were not so ’street wise’ One only has to turn to any type of media to hear/read the sad tales of sex related crime, and the sick habits of even some in professions in whom we should be able to put our trust - (priests included) To protect our children I feel the terminology needs to be changed, to prevent perverts, bullying and let the people who have this condition be entitled to their rights ’privacy’.  I would prefer the terminology to be related to the deficiency of the enzyme than that the virilisation.

In this day and age mistaken gender should not be missed, certainly not in the countries where most of us are from, but it is.  CAH is not taken seriously enough, too much focus on the gender issues (which I agree is a big part for females) and with this as a title, it highlights the gender issue and not the other complications that come with CAH, that actually occur in both sexes.  I guess the argument could be - CAH for boys as they have normal genitalia and intersex for girls?  The term causes hurt and embarrassment to those who have it, they do not like it, parents do not like it - and one wonders how these ’males’ you mentioned lived as men and in fact survived illnesses? Is there data on this?
