I’m glad you wrote because I had remembered what you have written about that and if I was born in the 40’s I would of been for all purposes a male becasue medical knowledge didn’t have the capability yet or the knowledge about CAH. I would of course been cute but still wouldn’t look inbetween any sex "intersex either" but just a cute short man based on the medical history of that time period and being a simple virilizer would of survived but later would of died from something that most people get over but couldn’t because I didn’t have the extra cortisol to kick -in.

I would of looked and functioned male ....handsome, cute easy going and maybe a banker in that era (yeah i like that) I would of been a boy baby from birth on and I think would of been OK.  

But, we live in this era and so do the people with CAH in the less developed countries and it’s for them that all the paws on me from the u of Mich are for because those smart people journey over to the less developed nations to help with care and also the books and the pictures that were done weren’t for nothing but rather to help a smart general Doc or NP firgure out the right or wrong of dosing and ALSO Clan with Dr. Kate that oversees improvement for CAH in countries that have less - amazing what her organization is doing. Those people are getting care and med too - maybe not in fancy places but they have CAH also.

The thing is Meg : ) may I call you Meg? is that people that don’t have intersex conditions can also manifest the caracteristics you are writing about nope right they aren’t going to slide right to male but many women are muscular just because - think of farm women. I’m muscular but is that from CAH or the fact that I’m from short German stock - Got curves though too. Extra Facial hair by whos standards ? The USA where for some strange reason women are supposed to be hairless like little girls or like Spain, other parts of Europe, and some parts South America where yep women do have hair.  A deep voice from CAH? or from another hormonal condition? I was at a Star Bucks yesterday and wasn’t sure if the person talking to me was male or female but I doubt an intersex condition. I think as a society we condition ourselves to define the real characteristics of male and female based on what is needed at that time period.

When I was born they thought I was a boy for a time and some pictures during childhood? if I didn’t know it was me? I would of thought it was a boy and then other pictures a girl - nothing inbetween and I also like what was in my medical records female- pseudo hermaphrodite secondary to CAH. Wanted to name me Chris and waited on the surgery to see which gender I favored just a bit. Of course also the part of having the phenotype match the genotype and that girls with CAH no testes are there but I did have a really big uterus that they wanted. Reality just fixing the adreanl gland no matter what challenged are in any country.

 

I  guess I don’t see the other countries behind the west because of the wonderful work of CLAN.  We are all CAH.
