heart surgery and research
May. 26th, 2006   7:46am

I had heart surgery done on thursday 25th May. I had what is called a electrophysiology study,  which involves the realignment of the electrical impulses in the heart. Which came out of the results from the earlier Angiogram I had in April. That i posted about. I hope that is might help others to get there heart looked at no matter what age. Iam 35 but it is thought that i could of had this for 8-10years or more, but only detected now.

The procedure is done with you awake and with internal catherers you have pathways burnt through your heart and you do feel it and the the heart is put into tachycardia(racing heart beat) to view the flow of the impulses. This is all done through the groin. I had 3 pathways burnt in my heart to now let it function hopefully better. The problem that was encountered was that it was in the left side of the heart and normally this problem is in the right side so it took 3 hrs to be done. My Professor is doing a study paper on it and now I am part of that paper and he is also going to mention about my CAH and long term Steriod use could of caused these problems with my heart. I will let you know the outcome of the paper.

I was kept in overnight in the hospital to stop internal bleeding, major bruising and the possibility of having of blockages, perforation, stroke or heart attack. But all was clear just very sore on the groin and the chest is very tight but that will be for 7-10 days while it heals into scar tissue. Which can cause problems as well so I have to be careful. I can still continue as a Chef i just have to be careful over the next few weeks while still healing. I go back to work next Wednesday doing breakfast.

I will keep you all up to date with what happens. It is hopeful to give me more energy to do things now as my heart is not fighting so hard anymore.

Stay Healthy, Stay Strong
