Danny CarltonWe had chicken & rice for dinner Sunday. Samuel (non-CAH) was the first to add salt, but Benjamin (non-CAH) and Jonathan (CAH) also added salt. It was just on the bottom edge of salty enough for me (non-CAH), just right for my wife (non-CAH) and too salty (although she still ate it) for Ginny (CAH).
Oh and here’s the recipe if anyone wants it:
Sunday Chicken & Rice
7 1/2 cups water
2 1/4 cups dry brown rice
1 large can Cream of Mushroom soup (the "family" size)
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder (or one onion chopped, depending on whether you want your fingers to smell like onions during church)
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
10 to 12 (or more) baby carrots
1 cut up chickenWe have a large dutch oven (a big cast iron pot) that I put it all in, put it in the oven and set the timer for 3 hour at 425°. I time it so it ends about a half an hour before we get home. That gives it time to just start to cool down a bit. If you don’t have a timer, most Sunday morning church services (Sunday School and church) last about 3 to 4 hours, depending on how far you have to drive, how long winded the pastor is, and how much you want to hang around and talk after the services. You could probably get away with setting it on 325° to 350° and start the oven right when you left, if you didn’t have a timer. But I’d test it first before risking Sunday Dinner.
