re: Anxiety

My 7 year old SWCAH daughter is a chronic nail biter, but more importantly she has just recovered from the condition "Selective Mutism", an anxiety condition where she wouldn’t talk to anyone except her immediate family - mother/father/sisters.  After the first 10 months of this behaviour she began talking to relatives - grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins, but she never got beyond that.  We had initially consulted a child psychologist and made a little bit of progress but not much.  We then travelled to another child psychologist an hour away and made fantastic progress.  She is now very chatty to people she knows - school friends/teachers/family friends, but is still a little shy talking to people she doesn’t know.  The selective mutism started when she was 4 and I would consider her "cured" now at the age of 7.  It was a long battle.  Now I’m not sure about the connection to CAH.   The behaviour started around the time her grandmother died so this could have been a factor.  She has always been VERY attached to me (her mother) much more so than her father, so we had a theory that she behaved this way so she could have me around her more (I spent a LOT of time in her classroom).   It’s the thing I find hardest about CAH - does this or that relate to the CAH or is it something separate?  I guess we will never know!   Her meds have always been closely monitored and levels monitored, there have never been any problems there.
