ToniIn the UK, we do seem to wait a lot longer! 17OHP profiles tend to take a month, yet random samples are generally back within 2 weeks (where I go anyway!). Renin however takes at least 6 weeks (if you are lucky) and in my experience can take as long as 3 months. I understand they save them up until there is a batch worth processing (due to cost) so if your sample misses a batch just processed, you will wait a long time to get the result.
It really isn’t good enough, as you say Mary and is very frustrating, especially as this can mean your child is on the wrong meds dose for an extended time and could suffer side effects as a result. This is the reason new born testing is not done in the UK - by the time the result came back, the baby would be a couple of months old, which would be too late to save the life of an unidentified child with SWCAH! It can be done quicker - we do have the facilities, but these tests are not considered a priority and the blame is generally put on the government and the cash strapped NHS system!
