Where in Virginia?  We’re in Chesterfield County (just outside of Richmond).  My daughter has always tanned very well when she goes out into the sun and the tan lasts for a very long time.  The dr. said it was because of the CAH.  Also, years ago we did notice some hyperpigmentation when her meds were off.
