DianaC’s Mom
My daughter had surgery at 3 yrs old.
She was allowed to eat dinner the night before surgery but no solids for the rest of the night. Liquids were not cut off till midnight before the surgery. She had surgery early the following am. Diet was not an issue with her as she is not a big eater.
The catheter came out easily when the Dr took it out and she did not even flinch when it was removed. It did not seem to give her much discomfort. She did not complain or mention it to me and she had it in for 2 weeks. Each is different depending on the degree of surgery and some are only in briefly.
The IV is carefully and firmly taped in place so it is unlikely your sweetheart will be able to get it off even if she tries.
I know it is hard not worry and wonder how she will do, but from our experience our daughter was in excellent hands and all went very well. My thoughts will be with you and let us know how things go.
Surgeries & techniques have improved greatly over the years.
