SherryWe have move around alot and as a result had to change doctors. Up until we found our last endo we were told that it didn’t matter what time the medication was given. We even had a doctor tell us once that we could let our son sleep in till 10am and give him his meds when a woke. I could never in good conscience to this. For the first 10 years we dosed at 6am, 3-4pm and bedtime. By the time my son was 6 years old his bone age had advanced 5 years. Still no one recommended changing the doseage schedule. It’s frustrating, because we have doctored with the department heads at Children’s Hospital. When we moved 3 years ago, we were really struggling with the labs, I’m thinking his 17OHP was up to 3500 at one point and he was taking 35 mg of Cortef a day. His new endo cut his dosage in half and changed the doseage times. He prescribed 7.5mg @ 4:30-5:00 am, 5mg @ 3-4pm and 5mg @ bedtime. His labs came back perfect!!! He has done very well on this schedule and has started slimming down and growing.
I have asked our doctor about the circadium dosing. He says that kids need suppression approximately 1 hour before they wake. He feels as though the Cortef will not suppress effectively if given at 3:00am as it will be out of their system before their body needs it. I know there are alot of people who feel differently on this subject. All I know is that this is really working for my son.
I hope this helps.
