It is a topical anesthetic rubbed on the site about 30 minutes prior to the draw....worked wonders on getting my daughter to realize it does not have to hurt. Especially when they are small. Also...Lots of fluids before the draw and keep the arms warm makes the veins easier to find. Good luck
