natalieToday my 10yr old son, LOCAH, had his 3rd ACTH stim test!! The 1st one was when he was 1yr old. Due to genetic testing and lack of symptoms, NIH ordered another stim test to see how his adrenals function at this point. The 2nd test performed in early June was a flop!! Our son has TONS of anxiety with blood draws, let alone an I.V. so NIH ordered him some anti-anxiety meds for the 2nd test. Those anti-anxiety meds suppressed his adrenals so the test was ruled inaccurate.
Today we had the 3rd test and it was so hard on our son!! I hate this stuff!! First, they said we had to wait 1.5hours until the pharmacy made the meds and the Emla cream would probably be worn off. I said, "No way, we are going to sit around in this hospital bed waiting for my son’s anxiety to go higher & higher -- please get the meds NOW". They had the meds up in 10 mins! All went well, until the last blood draw. The nurse could not get anymore blood out. They were moving around inside his vein like crazy!! Then the nurse had to poke him 3 more times looking for blood and finally got the last labs out of a vein in his hand!!
If all goes well his labs will show that his adrenals worked just fine under stimulation and he could go off Cortef!!! Whoever is reading this, if you are the praying type, please pray for him!!
