LauraMy daughter that has SWCAH was and still is the pickiest eater of all time. I attribute her pickieness to her genes other things. I don’t believe CAH played a factor in my daughter’s pickiness or lack of eating. Although I know some say that the Cortef can be harsh on their little tummies and this perhaps is making them feel not like eating too.
As for my daughter, she always stayed in the right weight until about First grade and then started to tip to the high end of the chart in weight. Someone saw her and said oh I am so glad she has grown. She was always so tiny. I never noticed it. The ped. always said she was in a good range but dropped once in a while in the height. But never off the "charts".
Now I have to blame my husband partially for her poor eating habits. He was never patient at dinner time when he had her as a toddler. I went to work evenings and he had her at night. She knew his buttons to push and he tried no new foods. BUT I have to say she was picky from the start. Even with the baby foods I can tell you there were only two foods she ate through until she changed to table food. That was carrots, and green beans and rice. ANYTHING and I do mean ANYTHING ELSE she would gag on. It was horrific for me. I hated it. And of course I would panic and not give her anymore thinking oh my GOSH if she pukes what will I do! And all other table food that was a chicken nugget and cheese she would do the swipe to the floor move. Oh and did I forget KETCHUP. Had to consist of KETCHUP. Hey that had to count as a veggie doesn’t it? Ugh. She never tried a red meat until last year and hated it. Which is fine with me. BUT she doesn’t eat the right foods to substitute that red meat protein. Trying new foods is a huge milestone for her. We went through every fruit and mind you this is at age 8, and she like some and didn’t care for others. But it took that long for her to start trying stuff. Today she doesn’t eat well so for those moms that have toddlers, see if your ped. has some food clinic you can visit. I am telling you now, do it while they are young. I wish to God I would have found some solution on her pickiness back then. Today it is struggle and blame her extra 5 to 10 pounds on that. But for the ones that can’t get their toddlers to eat, know that I have heard that complaint MANY times from parents of NON CAH patients, and they all have been told by their ped. they will eat when they are hungry. We used to laugh and say our daughter grew on air. Air and milk. I can tell you all my friends with toddlers who used to not eat have all healthy children today. This too shall pass. And before you know it they will be teens that never stop eating in your kitchen!
