I’m not sure if all states/companies are like this, but this is what we’ve encountered.

Group policies (the ones you get through larger businesses) will accept any person, no matter the pre-existing condition, but some will require a waiting period if they haven’t had insurance for so long before then.

Private insurances (ones that that you get on your own) will most often turn your child down because of pre-exisiting condition.

do you qualify for any state health programs? low income? how old is your child? I was able to get medicaid for the first year of my dd’s life...we made too much to techinally qualify for it, but because the birth of a child is a major thing (I cant remember the technical terms) you can pay the difference and they cover baby for a year.
