I suggest that the person behind the counter in the ice cream shop could possibly be intersexed (new term DSD) with a condition such as AIS (Androgen Insensitive Syndrome). They are usually tall and if they have partial AIS they are very difficult to pin point as to gender. Complete AIS people are usually completely feminine looking (altho’ have XY - male chromosomes) and are tall.

I think that a significant number of people whom we pass in the street, who we consider unidentifiable as to gender (ie. don’t know if they are male or female), do in fact have DSD disorders, but of course they don’t flaunt it/discuss it anymore than we do.

Also the term Intersex (DSD) is not confined to certain CAH people it refers to all types of conditions such as 5-alpha reductase deficiency, AIS, Klinefelters, Turners etc etc.
