allergic reaction

We learned that my daughter is allergic to iodine when she had to drink the contrast solution prior to her CT scan the other day.  I’m glad the reaction started then and not when she was already down in the room with the IV contrast being administered.  She got very red-faced and splotchy and then developed hives on her upper arms and shoulder.  They cancelled her procedure that day and rescheduled the next day and did a pretreatment with prednisone.  Her prednisone dose was about 10 times the Cortef dose and was administered 13 hrs, 7 hrs, and again 1 hr prior to drinking the solution or getting the IV.  She was also given benedryl in her IV before and after the procedure.  Anyone ever experienced this before?
