re: re: re: how to adjust when your child starts school with CAH

I really struggled when my daughter with SWCAH started preschool and kindergarten.  I even considered homeschooling, but only because I felt I was the only one who could handle her needs.  I met with the school nurse, principal and teacher, before school started.  I gave them information about CAH (from Magic Foundation and Johns Hopkins websites.)  I had a letter from the ped endo that described her condition and treatment.  I live 2 minutes from the school.  I had already met with the local EMT’s and they had her injectable medication on their trucks (all 2 of them!).  And I encouraged my daughter to tell her teacher when she didn’t feel well.  She also had a water bottle at her desk, a salty snack, and freedom to go to the bathroom as much as she needed!  The nurse called me alot-but most of the time it was a false alarm.  We made it through.  In first grade, I got a full-time job-10 minutes from the school and 2 minutes from the local hospital.  Now she’s in fifth grade and I’m not so nervous anymore.  You’ll get through it!  I cried when my first daughter went to school too (non-cah).  Now she’ll be a freshman in high school.  They grow-we adjust!  Take care.  Laura-Beautiful response-as always!
