Both my our daughters were on growth hormone injections.  I was worried, as you are, when we 1st discussed that treatment.  I read what I could and talked to as many people, however, I wasn’t aware of this message board at that time - boo hoo! Anyway, the injections went fine!!  My oldest, now almost 17yr grew great with the injections, not one side effect, however, I hated giving them to her every night because she would bleed and tell me that it hurt!!!  I just felt bad, but not too bad to stop!!!  My 2nd daughter gave them to herself every night which was great with me and never complained!!!!
