      I would seriously consider the fact that maybe the jewelry thing is just a phase. She is right with the life long factor but -what if for whatever reason her ID # would change or something. If she is mature enought to understand the life long aspect, she should be able to realize how important having medic ID is and responsible enough to wear the jewelry. There are so many styles and options now, I would say "choose whatever you like but not having something is not an option".

P.S. I am not anti tattoo I have several, but we are talking about a child here and this is about possibly saving her life, choose this battle. If she still wants to at 18 that is her choice, but for now make her choose a medic ID item. Keep us posted.
