Random vomiting - 1 year old SWCAH boy
Sep. 3rd, 2006   8:13pm

My son will be one next weekend and we have been slowly weaning him off of his sodium chloride...b/c he’s eating more solids.  Our endo monitors him closely and we are getting his blood work done tomorrow.  My question is about random throwing up.  I’m not even sure if it’s a CAH thing or something else...like maybe an allergy, a cold, teething...?

He has a sensitive gag reflex so he doesn’t do well on chunkier solid food.  So he’s been known to gag and throw up if he gets something "caught" on the back of his tongue.  But this is different and started last week.  We were out shopping and he had his dinner (with sodium chloride) about 45 minutes before we were out.  He ended up throwing up all over me.  I had no idea why.  He wasn’t running a fever.  The only thing that was wrong with him was a runny nose.  So I thought maybe he was just feeling worse.  Then he was fine.  (He went to the pedi and he has a cold.)  Then on Thursday, he threw up at the sitter’s house after eating some pasta with sauce (pureed).  Then yesterday he threw up after we gave him a small bite of a muffin.  And again later in the afternoon, when I gave him a bottle and didn’t want to go down for his nap.  We started to stress dose him after that.  Meanwhile all this time he’s acting fine, no temperature, no lethargy, full of energy and happy.

He ended up throwing up again after he had his "good-night" bottle.  (He ate his dinner about 45 minutes before the bottle.)

We’re used to him throwing up in regard to the sensitive gag reflex...but not for any identifiable reason...like this week.  Does anyone have any ideas? We called the endo tonight and they said to continue stress dosing.  I’m also calling the pedi in the morning b/c I think this is probably a pedi related problem...not CAH.  But could I be wrong?  I think he could have reflux, but he never had that as a baby.  Can they get that when they’re older?

Sorry for rambling.  My husband and I are at our wits end.

Thank you,

Sue
