Sherry in VaOur daughter has SWCAH and she’s 3. She’s always had a sensitive gag reflex. You’re son sounds a lot like her when she was his age, she didn’t like anything at the back of her throat. We had a hard time with her, because she figured out that she could gag herself and constantly had to watch her, especially when she ate to make sure she didn’t gag herself and throw up her entire dinner. She did this also at random times of day, even out shopping.
She had a runny nose and a fever for about 5 days. The fever was only 2 days, but about the 3rd day into it I took her to see her ped because she woke up and was so lethargic. She’d also had thrown up about 3 times in the previous days. Her ped told me (and also with previous cases) that the mucus from your nose is a big irritant on your stomach and can cause vomiting. Since you mentioned that he had a runny nose, I thought maybe this might have been the problem with his vomiting.
The other day, about a day and a half after her runny nose stopped she ate some pizza that was a little spicy (she’s had problems with spicy food before) and ended up throwing up because of it. She was fine after that. She’s had some problems with foods that she’s ate in the past. When I think back on it, it’s been when she’s had a cold and her tummy is already irritated by the mucus.
Anyways, sorry for the rambling. Hope this helps a little. Take care.
